San Diego, March 26, 2024 - Qualcomm Technologies and Google today announced an optimized version of the Chrome browser for Snapdragon powered Windows PCS, ahead of the upcoming mid-2024 release of Snapdragon ®X Elite powered PCS.
Chrome, the world's most popular browser, continues to deliver enhanced functionality through experimental new features, including generative AI, and performance and security updates.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, senior vice president at Google, said: "We designed Chrome to be fast, secure and easy to use across laptops and mobile devices, and we're looking forward to bringing this experience to more users.
Our close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies will help ensure Chrome users have the best experience when browsing the web on current ARM-compatible PCS."
The two have worked together since the first Android phone came out in 2008. The Snapdragon chipset also powers several wearable devices that support Google software. In January of this year, the two sides again said that they would strengthen cooperation for future XR devices.
Anmon, president and CEO of Qualcomm, said: "The new version of Google Chrome will help strengthen Snapdragon X Elite's position as an important platform for Windows PCS starting in mid-2024. The PC industry is at a critical point of transition, and with the advent of the AI PC era, we look forward to seeing Chrome shine with the powerful Snapdragon X Elite platform."
In initial testing of the Snapdragon X Elite reference design, the new Chrome achieved significant performance gains in the Speedometer 2.1 benchmark.
